With over 25 years experience as a highly qualified private flute instructor, Kris Palmer holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Flute Performance from Rice University. She is the flute instructor at Music Village in San Jose, and she is also a frequent guest lecturer on 18th-century performance practice, with recent lectures at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention, the San Francisco Flute Society's Flutes By the Sea, and the MTAC State Convention.

Dr. Palmer holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Rice University where she studied with Carol Wincenc. Her awards include first prize in the Carmel Chamber Music Competition, second prize in the NFA Young Artist Competition, a Carnegie Recital Debut with Artists International, and a grant from the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music. A former member of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, she is a solo recording artist and the found and director of Black Cedar.

She is the author of the book, Ornamentation According to C.P.E. Bach and J.J. Quantz, and she is a frequent guest lecturer and clinician on the subject of Baroque and Classical performance practices. American Music Teacher Magazine writes, "Clearly, Palmer is knowledgeable about ornamentation...her knowledge of the subject is very thorough."
